When Can I Apply for a Pardon?

Estimate the earliest date you could apply for a Canadian record suspension, based on the Parole Board of Canada's waiting periods. Nothing you enter is saved or sent anywhere.

3. How was it prosecuted?

Your court documents or criminal record usually show this. If you're not sure, we'll show both.

How the waiting periods work

For offences on or after March 13, 2012, the Parole Board's waiting period is 5 years for a summary conviction and 10 years for an offence prosecuted by indictment, counted from the day you finished your whole sentence. Older offences follow the rules in force at the time.

You can apply directly to the Parole Board of Canada for a $50 fee; you don't need a lawyer or a paid service. Province guides: Ontario · Quebec · Alberta · British Columbia
